Queer Support group Good As You Bangalore celebrates 30 Years with Sangamithra Launch and 'GoodAsYou Gallery'

Bangalore, India – September 15, 2024: Good As You (GAY) Bangalore, a renowned queer support group, marked its 30th anniversary at SCM House, Bangalore, with the release of the 10th edition of Sangamithra, their flagship publication.

Sangamithra 2024: Celebrating Queer Voices

This edition, titled "An Ode to the Past and a Nod to the Future", captures three decades of queer history, growth, and resilience through reflections from Good As You members and the broader community. Marking three decades of community engagement, the launch of Sangamithra, now in its 10th edition, was a central highlight of the celebration. Sangamithra has long been a vital space for documenting the stories, experiences, and reflections of queer individuals in India, offering a rich archive of the community's struggles, successes, and cultural contributions. Excerpts from various articles were read out on the stage, with much passion, humour and poignance. On this occasion, prominent Human Rights activist and long time member of the group, Arvind Narrain said, “Good as You has over the last thirty years functioned as a community-based organisation which is nonhierarchical and non-funded. This is a remarkable feat for any organisation leave alone one without a formal structure. The range of activist and social spaces for queer people in Bangalore can all in one way or the other trace their ancestry back to Good as You.”

GoodAsYou Gallery: Human Books Share Their Stories

The event also featured the GoodAsYou Gallery, where sixqueer individuals from the community participated in a dynamic "human library" session. Attendees were given the opportunity to engage with these "human books" by asking questions as suggested in the prompts for each the ‘human books’. The Gallery turned out to be an engaging session with attendees  getting to know personal anecdotes from the community members who have experienced and shaped the queer culture in Bangalore. Some of the ‘human books’ were Manish who is a Bangalore-based baker, Momo who is a molecular biologist, Joseleen Princy who is a Business System Analyst at a multinational company, Praveen who is a Bangalore-based visual artist, Patrick who has been associated with GoodAsYou since 1996, and a participant who helps run a peer-to-peer support group for LBT* persons.

A Community Celebration

With over 200 attendees, the well-attended event was filled with moments of celebration, queer joy, and meaningful conversations, marking a milestone in Good As You’s journey. Participants left inspired, having heard a wide array of stories that highlighted both individual and collective struggles within the queer community.

Sangamithra 2024 is available for a suggested contribution, with proceeds supporting Good As You’s efforts to continue providing safe, supportive spaces for the queer community. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಭಾರತ – ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 15, 2024: ಗುಡ್ ಆಜ್ ಯು  (GAY) ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕ್ವಿಅರ್ ಬೆಂಬಲಗುಂಪು, ತನ್ನ 30ನೇ ವರ್ಷಾಚರಣೆಯನ್ನು SCM ಹೌಸ್, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ 'ಸಂಗಮಿತ್ರ ' ಗುಂಪಿನ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ನಿಯತಕಾಲಿಕದ  10ನೇ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಆಚರಿಸಿದೆ.

ಸಂಗಮಿತ್ರ 2024: ಕ್ವಿಅರ್  ಧ್ವನಿಗಳ ಸಂಭ್ರಮಾಚರಣೆ

"ನೆನ್ನೆಯ ನೆನೆಯುತ್ತ ನಾಳಿನತ್ತ ನಡಿಗೆ" ಎಂಬ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಈ ಆವೃತ್ತಿ, 'ಗುಡ್ ಆಜ್ ಯು ' ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿಸ್ತೃತ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಚಿಂತನೆಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ಮೂರು ದಶಕಗಳ ಕ್ವಿಅರ್  ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಥೈರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪತ್ತೆಹಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೂರು ದಶಕಗಳ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ತೊಡಗುವಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತ, 10ನೇ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಯ 'ಸಂಗಮಿತ್ರ' ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಈ ಸಮಾರಂಭದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. 'ಸಂಗಮಿತ್ರ' ಬಹಳ ಕಾಲದಿಂದ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿನ ಕ್ವಿಅರ್  ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳ ಕಥೆಗಳು, ಅನುಭವಗಳು, ಮತ್ತು ಚಿಂತನೆಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಖಲು ಮಾಡುವ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮವಾಗಿದೆ. ಕ್ವಿಅರ್  ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಹೋರಾಟಗಳು, ಯಶಸ್ಸುಗಳು, ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ಇದು ಸಮೃದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ದಾಖಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿನ ಕೆಲ ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಸಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ವೇದಿಕೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ, ಭಾವೋದ್ರೇಕದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಓದಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಮಾನವ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರ  ಮತ್ತು ಗುಂಪಿನ ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲದ ಸದಸ್ಯರೂ ಆದ ಅರವಿಂದ್ ನರೇನ್   ಮಾತನಾಡಿ,”ಗುಡ್ ಆಜ್ ಯು ಕಳೆದ ಮೂವತ್ತು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯಾಗಿ, ಯಾವುದೇ ಹೊರಗಿನ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಬೆಂಬಲವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ನಾಯಕತ್ವವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದೆ. ಯಾವುದೇ ಔಪಚಾರಿಕ ರಚನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಂಘಟನೆಯೊಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಇದು ಪ್ರಶಂಸಾರ್ಹ ಸಂಗತಿ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ LGBT ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರುವ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಮನೋರಂಜಕ ಗುಂಪುಗಳು ಒಂದಲ್ಲ ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 'ಗುಡ್ ಆಜ್ ಯು'ದೊಂದಿಗೆ ತಳುಕು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡಿವೆ” ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

 

GoodAsYou ಗ್ಯಾಲರಿ: ಮಾನವ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲಿ  ತಮ್ಮ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ

 

ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು 'GoodAsYou ಗ್ಯಾಲರಿ' ಯನ್ನೂ  ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿತ್ತು, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಆರು ಕ್ವಿಅರ್  ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು 'ಮಾನವ ಪುಸ್ತಕ' ಎಂಬ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಯ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಗುಡ್ ಆಜ್ ಯು ಬೆಂಬಲ ಗುಂಪಿನ  ಹಿರಿಯ ಸದಸ್ಯ ಪ್ಯಾಟ್ರಿಕ್ ವಿಲ್ಸನ್, ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುವವರೊಂದಿಗೆ  ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಸ್ಥಿತ ಬೇಕರ್ ಮನೀಷ್, ಮಾಲಿಕ್ಯುಲರ್ ಜೀವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಜ್ಞರಾದ ಮೋಮೋ, ಬಹುರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಂಪನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಜೋಸಲೀನ್ ಪ್ರಿನ್ಸಿ, ದೃಶ್ಯ ಕಲಾವಿದ ಪ್ರವೀಣ್, LBT ಸಹವರ್ತಿ ಬೆಂಬಲ ಗುಂಪನ್ನು ನಡೆಸುವವರೊಬ್ಬರು - ಇವರೆಲ್ಲ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ ಇನ್ನಿತರ ಮಾನವ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು.
